I'm 23 and last year I started to really get into MLB. I've never really been into any sport ever, and although Baseball has grabbed my attention at different points in my life, I never became a baseball nut or anything. But since I'm now living in Chicago and want to attend a lot of games this season, I want to start really developing my knowledge of the sport as a whole in terms of history, strategies, players, fantasy baseball, etc. My question is, what are like the best videos or books or websites or magazines you know of that is great for a newbie to the sport to read? My husband is in his mid-forties and a huge baseball fan (Yankees in particular). He collects cards for a hobby, plays fantasy league baseball and watches endless matches on satellite television (we live in Europe). I would like to give him a birthday gift and would welcome suggestions in the price range of $50 - $150. They would need to be easily ordered and mailed to Europe. So ideally it would be something small, light and intriguing. In the past I've got him t-shirts and caps, so I'm looking for something a little different. The short question (will accept this as my main answer): What are the standard depths (from floor - I want something that can be easily stepped up on by any able-bodied person) and dimensions (the few largest would suit me - w x h) of the wooden rostrums used in the theatre, as stages or platforms. Years ago, I recall seeing gifts purchased at shopping malls "gift wrapped" in a transparent latex balloon. The people at the mall had some type of vacuum chamber device the expanded the latex balloon to the extent that it could hold a large gift, flowers, etc. Once the gift item was placed into the balloon, the balloon would be tied off.
