Air Transat/Jetsgo Baggage Allowance

Escrito el 9 de January del 2009 por wktd.
  • I'm currently planning on my travel plans to go home during Christmas. AC's regular and student fares for YYZ-YVR are getting beyond what I (a student) can afford!

I'm considering flying Air Transat on the way there and Jetsgo back (save more than $100+ rt). I know their baggage allowances are 20/32kg respectively. I'm just wondering do they strictly enforce the allowance? Say I go over by 5kg, will they actually charge me? Anyone has experience with these charter carriers on this aspect? I'm asking since I plan to bring back some heavy textbooks and notes home this Christmas.

I remember last year when I traveled on C3K. My bags went over the allowance by a little bit. The agent saw on my ticket thatI'm going away for 4 months (for school) and just sent the bags down without charging me! :-)

I need to bring 3 regular size cardboard boxes (packing boxes) & my suitcase on a YYZ-YEG flight next week.

You shouldn't have any problems. I used to take 4 pieces all the time when I went to trade shows and the booths got pretty heavy and still no problems.

Yes, it's 4 pieces when you're flying AC metal. This benefit is listed in your Elite benefit guide. Most agents know about this so you should be ok.

  • Works fine until they ask to lift your carry-on and discover its more than the allowed 5 kg. Then it goes as checked, and it had better not exceed the max 2 pieces and/or 20 kg.

  • I have a friend who had a bad encounter with C3 and basically said that he would wear a bunch of his clothes on the plane if they insisted on charging for the extra few pounds of text books - they did and he wore a bunch of clothes on board - nuts!! I think that Transat is pretty strict with this stuff. Put the heavy stuff in a carry-on and have a friend hold it until you are checked in to minimize the chances of it being weighed!

  • Yesterday I took a relative to YYZ T3 for a Canjet flight to YYT. She had her 2 suitcases, plus 1 box of Christmas gifts. Canjet charged her $25 plus GST for the box. Might hace done better with Canada Post, but flying it involved a lot less hassle.

They were all very polite. At those lower fares these cariers likely toe a pretty firm line on extra bags.
