interesting OW fare from Tunis to JFK (includes AA J class to NYC) for 1195 usd al in

  • I havent been able to price this fare out on travelocity, expedia or orbitz, as those sites do not support fares out of Tunisia, but it´s a published fare and prices (for example) out on www.area.fi or www.estravelshop.com (small Finnish and Estonian on-line booking tools which are probably little use for majority of you). At the same time it should be possible to ticket this fare with a help from any good TA. I would not reccomend to trying to book this fare by calling to airlines!
    Beauty of this fare is IMHO in following:


    # if AF flight out of TUN is used then AF segment seems to book into F class (I am not sure whether Tunisia-France flights actually have F class, but it should give F class credit)

    # Stopovers (more than 24 hrs) are not possible, but rather interesting routings can be used within Europe allowing one to make short onenight stops in different cities (see example 2).

  • we are certainly talking about a different fare. The J full fare as I stated ALLOWS unlimited free stopover.

    But indeed, the HIP interferes with that. I tried to TUN MXP (stopover 1 week) AMS (stopover 1 week) CDG NYC LHR TUN on ITA. In the fare calculation, it is clear that the fare component TUN NYC is replaced by a E/XXX M MILNYC 2765NUC. Tricky indeed... in many fares there is "HIP may be ignored" but not on this one :(

  • it seems AA has a fare at 1400 EUR + taxes return TUN NYC TUN, full J, books in D, unrestricted and unlimited stopover. That sounds like a good holiday fare: use miles to TUN, visit Europe for a couple of weeks, in business class, have a week-end in NY, fly back to visit Europe one more week and back to TUN to finish holidays :)

    The only limitation is the maximum permitted mileage (+25%) to add legs in Europe. It increases the price in the same proportion as the distance increases, it adds up carriers fuel surcharges and taxes but for less than 2000 EUR all in, I priced:

    TUN MXP CDG FRATLL GOT LHR NYC CDG CPH PRG BUH ATH TUN and you can stop as long as you wish in each city!

    Were you actually able to price it out with stopovers?

    it prices out without the stopover (just with the stops, taking these cities as connecting points) but after you have flown the first segment, you can make any change free of charge, changing dates, route etc. using fares valid at time of original ticket issuance. Therefore, instead of transiting, you can stop in these city, as allowed by the rules.

    a stopover for more than 23 hours 59 minutes (i.e. a true stopover) probably triggers the HIP rule, as mentioned by CHC Kiwi


  • I don't think it really belongs in this thread as its not the most amazing fare, £1,000 is not fare off what you can get on BA from parts of europe. Its only interesting that it can be used o/way. There are also lots of discussions throughout FT about departure prices from TUN


  • I was looking at this fare quite abit recently, and you can get it to ORD (for memory or somewhere in the middle of the states) and get it to loop back to NYC for a similar price.

    FWIW DL shows it for 1600 and change USD all on AF metal.

    No, but it can be ticketed as a round-trip for double the price.

  • $2349 TUN-BNA in F with F on AA FRA-DFW seems to be a good deal. Not a jumbo by any means, but much better than the £1,000 J fare on BA ex-Europe that you are speaking of.
