I have seen many posings on how to earn/ generate ff miles. However, an even more important subject as to how to use or which airline has the lowest number of ff miles for a certain trip seems to get no postings. The difference is huge : one airline had a special for 0nly 17.5k miles to Latin A. when for the same trip an other airline wanted 100k ff miles----that almost a 6 times difference. Or, is there a site to address this?Valid 1 September - 15 December, book by 31 October. Cash in AA miles for trans-Pacific travel on CX (domestic on AA). All travel is in economy.
40,000 miles - U.S. to Hong Kong.
45,000 miles - U.S. to most cities in Asia CX serves.
55,000 miles - U.S. to Middle East, India, South Africa, or Australia.
Stopovers allowed in U.S. gateway city (CX departure city) and in Hong Kong.
Extremely excellent deal I must say. Wife and I are taking advantage of it in late-October. Be advised that cities in Japan and Vietnam are not on the list anymore (to our extreme disappointment)!
This is basically a 3 continent trip if you work it right(DFW-LAX, LAX-HKG, HKG-JNB for example).

*A Award tickets using UA miles.
SAS AMS - ARN 35,000 miles.
LH AMS - ARN 20,000 miles!
AndrewMBest, once they come out, I will be happy to update this board. However, if you have OP miles, you should check the CO website daily starting in September. Once the special is available, they go very quickly since it is extremely capacity controlled. You must be flexible with your dates and destinations.
Good LuckI think i saw on the AA site that you can get to Europe October - April for 35kI believe CO offered Hong Kong for 25000 miles last spring.CO just came out with their fall specials:
for 17,500 OP miles you can fly from lower 48 to Central America, USVI and as far as Caracas.
http://onepass.continental.com/news.htm#fallI am interested in this too - even the most basic differences. 20,000 here, 25,000 there - I'd like to know what is what out there.
I see from my Citibank AAdvatage enclosure that I can get certain cities for 20K. I'm looking for other information like that. The hands-down winner would have to be Southwest, because four roundtrips of any length get you a free roundtrip anywhere WN flies. This would be the equivalent of 4,000 status miles on most other carriers (assuming every segment would get the customary 500-mile minimum). Many shorthaul routes are currently available for $71.50 rt, so an award ticket would cost you as little as $286.
Of course WN only flies within the lower 48, and then once you earn the free transcon you have to deal with the fact that you'll be stuck on a WN 737 for four hours. To be fair, "system-wide" for Frontier does not mean the same thing as it does for world-straddling airlines like AA or UAL.Southwest offers potentially the best deal for people who travel short-hauls for business. For example, four MCI-STL R/Ts at $100 each could become a (near) transcontinental free ticket. Of course, I agree that it's unfair to compare Southwest, Frontier, and AWA to the worldwide earnings opportunities on AA, UA, etc. They are just different beasts.
Sweet deal going on right now: 2 free tix on Midwest Express to New Orleans (from selected cities, MCI being one of them) for 25K. Considering that paid New Orleans fares are rarely rock-bottom, and this is a near-first-class experience, I think this is a great bang for your mile.Yes, I am waiting patiently for those CO specials to come out. I remember last fall that London, Zurich, DUS, and others were 20,000 miles. There were some great ones for this spring also (I was eyeing that one for Brazil, too!). But I didn't have enough miles for two people to go this year until I did a couple of mileage runs (AMEX bonuses, etc.) One has to use CO miles for the CO specials, they can't be paid for with NW miles.
LindaI collected miles with America West (nice online booking bonuses) and used them on Continental to Brazil during Carnivale...... Only 35,000 miles. From my experience less than most carriers.US offers periodic 15k miles fares to its BofA/US Visa cardholders.Originally posted by Spider:
Kempis, do you have a link to further info on this? Does this include Estonia?
No this does not includes Estonia. To travel to Estonia it cost 30.000points(Only 20.000points from Denmark though). Speaking of Estonia are you flying the famous TLL-OZ deal or what?
More info on EuroBonus trips with SK @ http://www.scandinavian.net/travel/eurobonus/exchange/index.asp15,000 Air Canada miles will get you a "short-haul" ticket (and Atlanta to Thunder Bay or Gaspé is a short haul!)I believe Southwest have the best deal right now. They are offering double credit booking online through December 31, 2001. You only need to book 4 RT trips. Cheapest is from Dallas Love Field to Houston Hobby for $65.50 RT. A sale they always have with 7 days in advance booking. I've booked 8 trips for every weekend my hubby and within 2 months, he got two rapid reward tickets and paid only $524.00. I use these rapid reward tickets to fly to Seattle (two connections but worth it). Saved us $358 each for booking on another non-stop scheduled airline. If you are a member of EuroBonus it only cost 12000 points for travel with SK within or between Norway,Sweden,Denmark and Finland. This includes LYR.
Children under the age of 18 travels for only 6000 points!
[This message has been edited by kempis (edited 08-09-2001).]Northwest Airlines off peak RT award is 20K within Continental US and Canada. With the 2K discount for nwa.club members, which anyone can join, it comes down to 18K miles.
Also, recently Cathay Pacific (using AA miles) had some discounted awards to East Asia and India.
[This message has been edited by PG (edited 08-08-2001).]Best deal I had was 17,500 miles from LAX to Brazil (either GIG or GRU) R/T. Less to fly to Brazil than domestic ticket!! This was with CO. They do have specials once in a while. They also had US-DUS/FRA for 20,000 miles. I think these are unbeatable!!
Special usually is announced in September for OCT-NOV flights... stay tuned.AAdvantage offers stopovers on its domestic awards, which depending on how you work it can end up as two awards in one. We wrote about it some years back. I can probably unearth how it works, if this post doesn't jolt someone's memory.N2FLY; What you posted is what i consider a good use of the hard earned ff miles. I certainly would appreciate if you let me know when you find similar or better. Since the airlines are lowering their fares I hope they will run some great ff specials, too!Midwest Express always has free companions for 15K.Well, you have come to the right place, but you will have to be a bit more specific. You can pose specific questions here (i.e., anyone know who has the lowest FF miles required to get to Alaska or Hawaii?), or you can follow the news of the specific airlines for which you have a lot of miles (why bother following news of United if you have no United miles). For example, last year someone posted that Delta had an award "sale" and certificates for domestic US travel, usually 25,000 miles, could be obtained for 20,000 miles for a limited period of time. With 80,000 miles, just slightly more than three tickets normally, I instead picked up four domestic US coach tickets. So, if you want to catch things like that, you have to keep abreast of what's being posted here.
As to one specific site that compares each of the airlines for each specific destination, though, I am not aware that such a site exists. Anyone else?

Hope this helps.BA for European members is very good.
They give 20% dicount at certain times of the year depending on the region flown to.
For exemple CDG-LHR-NYC is 32.000 miles from January 15 to May 31st and November 1st to December 15th etc...
Another good one is AF promotions.
Till August 28th, 2 business return ticket to any cities served by direct flights go for 80.000 miles, on return ticket for 50.000
SR is the best for intra-european:
20.000 in Y / 25.000 in C for all European countries, Turkey and Maroco and Russia included with a free stop-ever anywhere!Originally posted by kempis:

Kempis, do you have a link to further info on this? Does this include Estonia? The all-around best deal out there is Frontier's year-round systemwide free ticket for 15k.The Qualiflyer ( SR/SN/LO anf others) do have
15K companion plus 10 K children.
Sometimes promo ticket is just 10K
Turkish TK 20K ticket gives a flight from Europe to IsraelAir Canada allows AC Elite (*A Gold) to claim a companion short-haul Y fare ticket for 10,000 pts (code S0119)
They also have a promotion for short-haul Y fare redemptions during a specific period for 12,000 pts (code S0101)... not bad.
My favorite is YYZ-HKG for 50,000 pts.America West 20K.
Delta currently has 15K rewards between ATL/CVG/DFW to 15-18 other cities for flights completed by 08-31-01 (or 09-16-01).For 5,000 UA Mileage Plus miles, you can get a free round-trip ticket within Hawaii. For 10,000 miles a free first class ticket. During the promotion for a UA Mileage Plus Visa, you received 10,000 bonus miles just for signing up.Originally posted by myleguy:

Do you have any further info or a link for this?AAdvantage allows stop-overs on international awards as well. This can squeeze extra mileage from awards. For example, I recently flew a AA 90K biz award from the east coast to China. I flew first class to San Francisco for a free stopover. Then biz to Tokyo for a free stopover. Then biz to Beijing. Then returned openjaw from Hong Kong to Tokyo (free stopover permitted in Osaka or Tokyo). Then to Los Angeles for a free stopover. Then first class back to the east coast.Originally posted by silverpie:

On the other hand, Toronto to Halifax is not...that requires 25,000 miles. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
With Continental, you get a ticket between Florida and Alaska for 20,000 miles.PG - NWA.club costs $35/year, and enrollment is currently closed, so it is not something to currently consider.
see: http://www.nwa.com/club/
BUT, you can get a 1,000 reduction in award prices by booking your WorldPerks Award travel online at nwa.com
[This message has been edited by steve100 (edited 08-08-2001).]US Airways offers 15K awards on its shuttle routes between BOS DCA LGA. I did this recently for a last minute flight BOS-DCA that otherwise would have cost me $613.On an ongoing basis, Delta has a 35,000 mile coach award to Hawaii that I believe is the lowest out there. On an ongoing basis, Delta has a 35,000 mile coach award to Hawaii that I believe is the lowest out there.
The Award D112 (Coach SkySaver Award to Hawaii) is for 30,000miles - which makes Delta the airline of choice for those saving for Hawaii. The FC ticket is 60,000.
